Accessible Empirical Knowledge on the Psychology of Third Culture Kids
TCK Psychology is our related Instagram page that shares current research on third culture kids in an easy-to-access manner. It covers topics like identity development, repatriation, finding belonging, and more! It is also where we share Dr. Chloé's research in a more accessible format. Together with our followers we have built a community of TCKs, TCK parents, expats, and mental health professionals who learn from and support one another. Feel free to following along @TCKPsychology.
What is a "third culture kid"?
There are some differences in the way that the term "third culture kid" is defined. We think the clearest is by Tan and colleagues (2021). This definition is anyone who has lived or is living outside their parent(s)/primary caregiver(s) passport(s) countries for more than one year before the age of 18 for temporary reasons (such as a parent(s) work or advanced training).

The Why Behind TCK Psychology
TCK Psychology was founded by Dr. Chloé Donohue in 2021 during her doctoral research. Through the research process, she realized that (1) there was not enough empirical knowledge on TCKs and (2) that the existing research was not easily accessible to TCKs and their loved ones. Therefore, Dr. Chloé started an Instagram page to share the current empirical knowledge and literature on TCKs in an accessible and easy to understand way.
