Child and Adolescent Therapy at Donohue Consulting

Child & Adolescent Therapy

We are experienced in working with children and adolescents seeking a wide range of therapeutic support. For some, it may be for a diagnosed mental health condition, for others, it may be about stress, trauma, relational difficulties, transitions, moving, and more.

A bit about it

Finding the right therapist for your child/adolescent (or as an adolescent yourself) can be daunting. We understand this and work collaboratively with parents to ensure the highest quality of mental health care for their child/adolescent. This often means holding reviews with parent(s) so that a systemic approach can be taken toward child/adolescent wellbeing. Alternatively, if your child is not ready to engage in therapy we also work with parents so that we can support you, as you support your child.

Evidence suggests that a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of therapeutic change, which is why we typically suggest meeting at a regular time once a week in the first instance to develop a strong foundation with clients. Following this, we can meet with children and adolescent clients less frequently. Sessions are usually 50 minutes, though this can be negotiated, and are carried out over our secure consulting room on Zoom. The same link will be provided every time. Click here for more on Zoom's privacy policy.

Services with Donohue Consulting are provided as a fee-for-service and our rates will be discussed with you during your initial consultation. Payment options may differ depending on your location, though generally, we accept card payments and bank transfers. Donohue Consulting is not partnered with any insurance. However, upon request, we can provide invoices so that you can be reimbursed through your insurance.

How it works

1

Firstly, book a free 15-minute consultation. We typically recommend meeting with the parent(s) and child/adolescent to understand how to support them and if we are the right service. We'll also discuss any questions you or your child may have.

2

Parent(s) or a legal guardian will review and sign the contract and will fill in our  emergency contact form. We are committed to keeping our clients safe and this step is an important part of that.

3

The child/adolescent will attend their first session. We also recommend spending part of this session with parent(s). This session is dedicated to learning more about the child/adolescent and their goals. At the end of the session the therapist will confirm a treatment plan.
