Couples Therapy
We are experienced in working with couples seeking therapy for a wide range of reasons. For some, it may be navigating how to support your partner with a diagnosed mental health condition, for other couples, it may be about developing stronger communication skills, or how to navigate stress, trauma, transitions, and more, effectively as a couple.
A bit about it

The start of therapy can be a complex experience. Some people find it comforting, others can find it a bit anxiety-provoking. No matter your experience as an individual and as a couple, we are here to help you navigate it. The first few sessions will likely be about learning more about you and your partner, as well as developing a relationship with your therapist. Clear goals of what you and your partner hope to achieve in therapy will also be set. A tailored couples treatment plan will be made from there.
Evidence suggests that a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of therapeutic change, which is why we typically suggest meeting at a regular time once a week in the first instance to develop a strong foundation with clients. Following this, we are open to meeting with clients fortnightly or less regularly. Sessions are usually 90 minutes, though this can be negotiated, and are carried out over our secure consulting room on Zoom. You'll have the same link every time. Services with Donohue Consulting are provided as a fee-for-service and our rates will be discussed with you during your initial consultation. Payment options may differ depending on your location, though generally, we accept card payments and bank transfers. Donohue Consulting is not partnered with any insurance, however, we can provide invoices so that you can be reimbursed through your insurance.
How it works
1
Firstly, book your free 15 minute consultation. It is recommended that we speak to both you and your partner so we can learn more about how we can support you as a couple and if we are the right service for you. We'll also discuss any questions you may have.
2
Each member of the couple will review and sign the contract as well as fill in our emergency contact form. We are dedicated to keeping our clients safe and this step is an important part of that.
3
Attend your first session. This session is dedicated to learning more about you both and your collective goals. At the end of the session your therapist will confirm your tailored couples treatment plan.
