Family Therapy
We are experienced in working with families seeking a wide range of support. We work with parents and children or carry out parent sessions on their own. We start from a place of validation: understanding that everyone is doing the best they can with the current tools they have. Our role is to help your family find new tools, strategies, and/or ways of communicating to enhance mutual understanding and support your family's flourishing.

A bit about it

Family therapy emphasizes understanding and addressing the dynamics, communication patterns, and interactions within a family. By involving multiple family members in the therapeutic process, family therapy aims to promote understanding, empathy, and collaborative problem-solving among family members. The first few sessions will likely be learning more about your family, developing a safe and boundaried space for all members of the family to express themselves and developing a relationship with your therapist. A family treatment plan will be made from there.
Evidence suggests that a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of therapeutic change, which is why we typically suggest meeting at a regular time once a week in the first instance to develop a strong foundation with families. Following this, we are open to meeting with families fortnightly or less regularly. Sessions are usually 90 minutes, though this can be negotiated, and are carried out over our secure consulting room on Zoom. You'll have the same link every time. Click here for more on Zoom's privacy policy.
Services with Donohue Consulting are provided as a fee-for-service and our rates will be discussed with you during your initial consultation. Payment options may differ depending on your location, though generally, we accept card payments and bank transfers. Donohue Consulting is not partnered with any insurance, however, we can provide invoices so that you can be reimbursed through your insurance.
How it works
1
Firstly, book your free 15 minute consultation. It is recommended that we speak to all family members that would participate in the therapy so we can learn more about how we can support you as a family and if we are the right service for you. We'll also discuss any questions you may have.
2
All family members over the age of 18 review and sign the contract as well as fill in the emergency contact form. We are committed to keeping your family safe and this step is an important part of that.
3
Attend your first session. This session is dedicated to learning more about your family, agreeing and establishing the boundaries of family therapy, and your family's goals. At the end of the session your therapist will confirm a family treatment plan.
